Consequences for HIPAA violations can often be quite harsh. If someone has breached the HIPAA privacy regulations – even without any malicious intent, civil penalties are applicable: $100 per violation for unawareness, a minimum of $1,000 for reasonable cause, a minimum of $10,000 if willful neglect is present and then rectified, and finally, a minimum of $50,000 for individuals who act with willful neglect and ignore the issue.

The Holistic Pediatric Association has announed it will cosponsor a pediatric track at the California State Oriental Medical Association's (CSOMA) Annual Conference and Exposition in San Francisco the weekend of April 29, 2005. The track provides an excellent opportunity for acupuncturists to learn more about the Chinese medicine approach to pediatric care from some of the country's leading experts.
The Holistic Pediatric Association (www.hpakids.org) is a non-profit 501c3 corporation that provides education and support to both health professionals and parents through its interactive website, seminars, conferences, and other educational projects. The HPA challenges the accepted wisdom of current standards of children's health care and offers an additional understanding of health, wellness, and illness.

The HPA's vision is to influence and support a major transformation in the current practice of pediatrics into a safe, nurturing, and sensible holistic health care system for children. The association envisions and supports a transformation in parenting by empowering parents to trust their natural wisdom and make informed choices on behalf of their children.
The HPA offers a practical approach to pediatric care that focuses on the principles of health, wellness, and the safe resolution of illness. The association teaches alternative approaches and treatments to pediatricians and other health care professionals to use in their practices, and provides networking and exposure opportunities to pediatric health professionals through a health professional directory, member forums and conferences. The goal of the networking and exposure opportunities the HPA provides is to open holistic health professionals' practices to a wider field of patients.
The HPA's board of directors, advisory board, education committees, and editorial staff are composed of leading experts in the field of holistic pediatrics and practitioners with many years of experience in teaching, writing, and clinical practice.
