Pacific College of Oriental Medicine has announced that it will present the First Annual San Diego Healing Arts Festival, Saturday, May 15, at the War Memorial Lawn in Balboa Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is designed to promote holistic healing to the San Diego community through lectures, musical offerings, presentations and classes, all offered to the public free of charge.

The festival will feature free massages and Oriental medicine consultations provided by interns from PCOM. In addition, the Taoist Sanctuary will offer qigong classes, while the Shiva Center for Ayurveda and Yoga will hold an opening meditation ceremony and provide yoga classes. Other vendors and exhibitors will present additional opportunities for the public to learn about and experience the benefits of alternative medicine.

In addition, the Healing Arts Festival will feature musical and artistic presentations by several performers, including a tai qi sword form demonstration, a performance massage artist, a bellydancer, an acoustic Americana band, hip-hop artists and an orchestra.

"This event is designed to teach the community about various health care alternatives that they might otherwise not be exposed to," remarked PCOM Student Council President Ryan Altman, who organized the event. "With classes, speakers and presentations all day long, there will be something for everyone."
