Matthew Enright is a licensed acupuncturist and currently practices in Boca Raton, Fla. and New York, NY. Dr. Enright is also an adjunct professor at NOVA Southeastern University teaching Integrative medicine and the fundamentals of Traditional Chinese Medicine, an adjunct professor at the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine teaching Practice and Business Management. He is also the Course Director and Chief Instructor of the "Basic Acupuncture Program" at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, and an acupuncture consultant for the University Of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. But as the needle meets the skin, the student hesitates - the symptom of a quiet habit that has taken hold of our profession. We routinely say we “prescribe” points. It sounds efficient. It echoes the authority of biomedical culture and fits neatly into the insurance field. But vocabulary is never neutral; repeated long enough, it dictates behavior.
