A student stands over a patient, needle poised. They have a “perfect” prescription: a textbook combination of points harvested from a lecture slide on chronic lower back pain. But as the needle meets the skin, the student hesitates - the symptom of a quiet habit that has taken hold of our profession. We routinely say we “prescribe” points. It sounds efficient. It echoes the authority of biomedical culture and fits neatly into the insurance field. But vocabulary is never neutral; repeated long enough, it dictates behavior.
Rory Crouse, LAc
Rory Crouse is an acupuncturist practicing in Long Island, N.Y. He has a background in business, earned his master's degree in traditional Chinese medicine,√Ǭ† and is currently working on his doctorate of Chinese medicine. He and his wife founded M & R acupuncture, a Long Island-based wellness clinic, and have loved being a part of their friendly local community. Rory treats a variety of ailments in his practice, but specializes in pain relief, treating sciatica and chronic pain. He also has a passion for Chinese herbology.
