Mission Statement
The American Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM) warmly welcomes interested students from across the country. The academic program at AAAOM was developed with direct input from accomplished Chinese scholar-doctors, each of whom has contributed to the general body of knowledge about TCM. Their knowledge and experience is also reflected in the comprehensive curriculum that comprises the Oriental Medicine program at AAAOM.

History
The AAAOM was granted candidate status from the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in November 2001, and was accredited in November 2003. AAAOM is also affiliated with several schools in China, including the Shangdong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Programs Offered
AAAOM's master's degree program in acupuncture and Oriental medicine prepares graduates to competently use acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, tuina, Oriental dietary therapy and the other healing modalities of traditional Chinese medicine to accurately diagnose and effectively treat patients. The program meets the standards required to allow students to successfully take the acupuncture, Chinese herbology, and Oriental medicine diplomate exams of the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
The total curriculum of 2,805 hours (159 credits) includes 1,560 hours of didactic instruction on acupuncture, herbs and Oriental medicine, 405 hours of bioscience-related material and 840 hours of clinical observation and experience. Within the curriculum, students may emphasize acupuncture, Chinese herbology, and/or Oriental medicine, and they may focus on one or more of areas of specialization in traditional Chinese internal medicine, such as gynecology, pediatrics, or dermatology. The program runs 12 trimesters, with 15 weeks per trimester. The maximum time to program completion is eight years. Part-time study is allowed.
