| Digital ExclusiveSociety for Integrative Oncology to Hold International Conference in San Diego
The Society for Integrative Oncology will host its second international conference this November 10-12 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Diego, California. The theme of this year's meeting is "Multidisciplinary Advances in Integrative Oncology." Held in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and other organizations, the conference will feature evidence-based updates on botanicals, antioxidants, and other complementary therapies for cancer care; international research data; abstracts and poster presentations; and commentary and critique by some of the world's leading oncologists.
The Society is a non-profit, multidisciplinary organization of professionals dedicated to studying and facilitating the cancer treatment and recovery process through the use of integrated complementary therapies. Its mission is to educate oncology professionals, patients, caregivers and other interested parties about state-of-the-art integrative therapies, including their scientific validity, clinical benefits, toxicities, and limitations. Several licensed acupuncturists currently belong to the organization's scientific committee, including Kabba Anand, Joseph Chiang, Lixing Huang, and Leanna Standish.
This year's conference features keynote addresses by Dr. Michael Baum, a visiting professor of medical humanities at the University College of London, and P.C. Leung, OBE, director of the Institute of Chinese Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Other presentations include "Botanicals for Symptom Management," "Nutritional and Micronutrient Approaches," and "Antioxidant Therapy in Cancer."
A satellite workshop titled "Acupuncture in Oncology Practice and Research" originally intended to be held during the conference has been canceled.
