Mission Statement

The mission of Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine is:

  • to emphasize a strong foundation in all aspects of diagnosis, especially contemporary Chinese pulse and asking diagnosis, as a basis for successful treatment that is both individualized and integrated;
  • to encourage thoughtful study and re-evaluation of traditions while developing expert observational skills which bring the content of Oriental medicine into the 21st century;
  • to graduate students committed to the practice of Oriental medicine and capable of communicating with biomedicine; and
  • to do this with a diverse faculty that operates efficiently and harmoniously providing a healing atmosphere for the student practitioner and patient alike.

History

Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine was founded in Florida in 2001. It is licensed to provide a master's degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine by the Florida Commission for Independent Education. Its degree program was granted candidate status by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2002. In May 2004, it was fully accredited by ACAOM.

Programs Offered

Dragon Rises offers a four-academic year, 36-month program that culminates in a master's degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. The program meets or exceeds all national and state educational requirements, and fully prepares students for national boards and state licensure examinations. 

Through the master's program, Dragon Rises hopes to achieve the following educational objectives for its students:

  • Graduates will become diagnosticians skilled in observation, auscultation, inquiry and palpation, with an emphasis on contemporary Chinese pulse diagnosis, lifestyle and prevention.
  • Graduates will learn principles and techniques of Oriental medicine (including acupuncture, herbal medicine, health-promoting exercises and practices) necessary to prevent and treat various internal and external diseases.
  • Graduates will gain the knowledge required to access information resources pertaining to health care in general, and Oriental medicine in particular; including an understanding of basic principles of Oriental medical research.
  • Graduates will learn professionalism, including skills of ethical and appropriate practice, therapeutic relationship and communication with biomedical and other health care practitioners for the purposes of practice management, consultation and referral.
  • Graduates will be able to successfully pass the NCCAOM exam.
