The mission of Emperor's College is to cultivate brilliant healers, teachers, and leaders who create the future of healthcare by word, deed, and through partnerships.
The focus of Emperor's institutional purpose is to support students in their journey to become practitioners, teachers, and leaders in the field of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AOM). The college's distinguished alumni are academic and clinical leaders at several other AOM colleges and the pioneering political leaders in the profession. Emperor's prepares its graduates to effectively integrate into the modern health care system through a busy on-campus clinic and off-campus externships that pioneer collaboration with western health care institutions.
History
Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine was founded in 1983 and fully accredited in 1989, making it one of the oldest continuous acupuncture schools in the country.
Programs Offered: Master's
The most comprehensive AOM program in the United States, the Master's program at Emperor’s College is a four-year program encompassing acupuncture, herbal medicine, Chinese internal medicine, Western medical sciences and therapeutic exercises--Qi Gong and Tai Qi. In addition to the core curriculum, Emperor’s offers subject matter concentrations, providing students the opportunity to delve more deeply into areas like Japanese or Korean acupuncture, nutrition, and the classics, among others. The Masters of Traditional Oriental Medicine degree is awarded upon completion of 2,240 hours of classroom instruction and 970 hours of clinical practice.
In 1997, Emperor’s was the first acupuncture school in the country to partner with a hospital, providing the opportunity for clinical interns to treat patients in an acute rehabilitation unit. Currently, Emperor’s College is partnering with four integrative medicine centers where master’s students complete a minimum of 50-hours of clinical training alongside a supervising faculty and Western medical providers. Current externships include The Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, Being Alive, the Saban Community clinic, and the Venice Family Clinic (UCLA affiliated).
Programs Offered: Doctoral
In 2004, Emperor's College became one of the first schools in the country to offer a Doctoral program. The Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM), the highest degree offered in the AOM field, is two years of monthly intensives designed for working acupuncturists. Class meets for one long weekend a month for 24 consecutive months.
The DAOM Program offers a dual-specialization in Internal Medicine & Physical Medicine. The dual-specialty approach focuses on key areas of modern healthcare while implementing cutting-edge best practices grounded in tradition. The program offers DAOM Fellows the opportunity to develop their skills as practitioners, build their confidence and learn the professional skills necessary to build and expand their clinical practice. The curriculum includes advanced training in all aspects of TCM/Oriental medicine and within two core specialty areas, applicable biomedical science and advanced patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment. The Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) has announced it is closing after 41 years. Pending accreditor approval, OCOM will cease offering classes after September (fourth-year OCOM students graduate Aug. 26). All current / incoming OCOM students have the option of continuing their education at the National University of Natural Medicine or Five Branches University, or transferring to another school altogether.

The end of cancer treatment does not necessarily signal a return to good health. Cancer survivors report poorer health and well-being than people who have not had cancer; many suffer chronic consequences of cancer and its treatments. Some may also develop new symptoms many years after treatment has ended.
